Fruits of Labor | Seasonal Activity & Journal Reflection

The energy of late summer can be quite a buzz! If we take the lives of our great-great-grandparents into consideration, the speedy pace of life that kicks into gear in the late spring and early summer would be all in effort to prepare soil and sow seeds. With all that hard labor completed in June & July, the month of August could bear signs of fruit setting, seeds forming, and tasty roots becoming colorful & robust- all indicating how much sustenance would be available for the fall harvest!

With that perspective in mind, allow yourself some time to slow down and observe the shift in the season and the fruits of labor that early summer has brought us! Before jumping to the journal prompts below, prioritize a bit time in your day to day life to read the land as it prepares for fall. What is going to fruit or seed? What is drying out and returning to the earth? Deadhead some spent flowers in your garden or make a dry bouquet of dry grasses & seed heads. Some of the neighborhoods in this valley are filled with apricot and apple trees. Seek them out and collect their fruit for a crisp or cobbler.

Once you've slowed down and connected with this brief time of year, dive into the following Journal Prompts from Maia Toll's Wild Wisdom Companion:

  • What are the gifts that you have in your life?

  • Consider the last few months. What have you worked hard to grow that has been nurtured by the right conditions?

  • What have you worked hard to create that has not yet bore fruit? Can you shift or change the conditions?
