Centering Activities For Eclipse Season

There are two eclipses taking place between May 26 and June 10! It’s an exciting time filled with the energy of revealing, releasing, purifying, letting go, clearing space and more– all so that our highest self can move forward. This kind of energy asks a lot of us at this time. It’s important to be centered and clear about our own desires, visions, even sense of self.

It can be challenging to know what we want or do NOT want in our lives if we are unclear of what energy is our own, and what is actually coming from outside sources (i.e. your children, job, mother-in-law, societal pressures, etc.). Energetically, we can often feel like a paper doll, with the many versions of ourselves strung out, fluttering in the wind. It's important to call all our energy back to ourselves and be in unified concert with all our different parts in order to know the difference between what is our own wants, desires, essence, and what is not. A practice around this often sheds great light on that which needs to be fully released (so that we can expand into our authenticity). Here's a three-step routine to incorporate into your day for the next 10 days to support you in this process.

1. Centering Meditation:

  • In a place where you can be quiet and unaffected by outside sounds (and people!) sit in a comfortable position.

  • Close your eyes and place your hand on your heart and take a deep inhalation through your nose. Exhale through your mouth. Repeat a few times until you feel some settling in your body.

  • Bring your hands into your lap and take 3 full breaths, imagining that you're completely drawing air up from your root chakra until it spills or shoots out through your crown chakra.

  • Now allow yourself to just gently breathe and, with gentleness, take note of any and all sensations in your body. Give those sensations some descriptive words. For example, "I feel shimmery like light reflected off of the unsettled surface water onto a wall." Let yourself be fully present in that energy for a few moments, considering it like it is an interesting object in your hand. The more you do this practice, the more you will see that your body is capable of hosting an incredible variety of sensations.

  • Bring your attention back to your breath. With the inhalation invite all your energy and power to come back to you and fill the vessel that is you. On the exhale, imagine that you are releasing anything that is not yours. Repeat 6 times.

  • Then just allow yourself to sit and see what images, songs, poems, thoughts, etc. arise from inside yourself. You may find that you need to ask the subconscious to share and that it okay. The things that come up during this time may or not mean anything to you, but they might later as you are going through your day.

2. Clarifying Reflection

  • After you've completed the full centering meditation, take a few minutes to write down how you feel and what bubbled up from your meditation. If you have any additional insights or are experiencing themes, make a note. Sometimes I add the drawing of a Tarot or Oracle card into this practice to help initiate some fluid dialogue with my intuition. This the part of your practice where you will likely become clearer about what you want and do NOT want in your life.

3. Altar of Correspondences

  • Create an altar of things that correspond with how you desire to be. Build it in the same location that you will be doing your meditation. You can be as thoughtful or as impulsive as you like with this process, knowing that your intuitive self has been called forward and is ready to be in concert with you and your practice. Images and symbols are powerful tools for processing and clarifying our path!

Repeat the centering meditation and the reflection for 5 to 10 days (or full a full lunar cycle!). And let me know how it goes!
