Clearing Clutter | Words From Kate
The family went to Lake Powell this past weekend and I got to have the house to myself. I am not sure why though there is something nice about being alone to putter around the house. This happens to me about once a year, and this year I am patting myself on the back because I took some downtime (kinda). I spent most of it resting, cleaning, clearing and decluttering, and, because I was in my "flow," it seemed like I had endless time. I was able to get everything accomplished without feeling stressed. In addition to decluttering parts of my house, I got to declutter parts of my brain, and it is so cool to see and feel how they both support each other. I had been struggling with sitting down and organizing all my thoughts and ideas for the upcoming retreat. I had so many thoughts and wonderful ideas, but they were jumbled in my head. Just to take a break from the mental yo-yoing, I decided to go and clean and clear my kitchen and living room area. When I finished, I noticed I had a much easier time organizing my thoughts, my inspirations and drawing up daily outlines for the retreat.
Hmmm, I wonder what will be unleashed when I organize the “stuff” closet next! What needs to be decluttered in your life?
In-joy!

Mindful Moment | heart & head meditation
When there's a lot to accomplish we can often feel cluttered by feeling of overwhelmed or stuck in our heads fussing over "to lists." Here's a 3 minute meditation that aligns the head and heart. This meditation is especially helpful when your are feeling discombobulated or so cluttered you don’t know where to start!
Before your start, set a timer for 3 minutes so you do not need to worry about counting your breaths.
Sit comfortably with your eyes closed, back tall and relaxed, shoulders relaxed, face and jaw relaxed.
Let go of tension in the low back, hips, thighs, feet and toes. An easy way to do this is say aloud “it’s ok body, you can relax. You can relax your shoulders, your hips, your toes, you can relax all of you.”
Then gently place your right hand over your heart.
Take a deep inhalation and exhalation, imagining your breath is being drawn into and release out through your heart.
When your timer chimes, come to a close by slowly opening your eyes.
See if you can gently focus your eyes on something beautiful in the room you have not noticed before or it has been a long time since you noticed.
